KUALA LUMPUR: University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has tested 212,143 schoolchildren under the Gifted Students programme since March 2008, the Dewan Negara was told today.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said from the total, 4,682 students were selected to sit for second test using a website under the supervision of teachers and district education officers.
“From the second test, 405 students were invited to join a camping activity under the Gifted Schools Programme at the Education Faculty in UKM from Nov 28 to Dec 17 last year.”
Liew said the programme was aimed at identifying gifted students who were active and talented at the young age to groom their potential to an optimum level.
He added that under the first Economic Stimulus Package, RM7.3 million was allocated to implement the programme.
